Wireworms

Image of Wireworms
🔎Description

Are the juvenile stage of the click beetle, they are thin, up to 25mm long and yellowish-brown in colour with three pairs of small legs at the head end. They can take up to four years before they become adults.

⚠️Symptoms

Neat holes appear to be drilled through tubers of potatoes and other root vegetables. Roots and stem bases of young plants can be eaten or damaged causing wilting and often death, larger plants may just lack vigour and eventually die. This pest is often worse on freshly cultivated ground - the adults prefer to lay their eggs on grassy or undisturbed ground.
