Woolly aphid

Image of Woolly aphid

Description

These reddish-brown insects are covered with a fluffy, white, waxy material for protection. They suck sap from the stems of woody plants, rather than from the foliage, which is unusual for an aphid.

Symptoms

These aphids are visible between spring and early autumn as clusters of fluffy, white bumps on the plant stems. The feeding sites often develop into swollen, wart-like cankers. Large colonies of these insects feeding together can cause distorted growth and weaken the plant.

What next...

Now you know what the problem is, and the damage it is doing, don't let your plant suffer.
