Why do my Agapanthus form disfigured flower buds which don't open?

Our Advice:

This is caused by the Agapanthus Gall Midge. The adults lay their eggs on the flower buds and the maggots feed inside to stop the flowers developing and opening before dropping onto the soil/compost. As soon as the flower heads emerge, spray them with Resolva Bug Killer from Westland or Sprayday Bayer Greenfly Killer'>Greenfly Killer from SBM/Bayer.
