Description

Is a very common fungal disease also known as Botrytis and has wide range of hosts. It will infect almost any part of a plant from the roots to the fruit. It can be expected at any time of year, especially when conditions are damp.

Symptoms

Most commonly a furry grey-brown mould grows on decaying parts of plants and gradually invading the live tissue. Small black structures can be seen on the tips of these strands of ‘fur’, these carry spore which are spread by water splashes or carried on the wind. It is common on a wide range of edible and ornamental plants, including; apples, beans, blackberries, courgettes, cucumbers, cyclamen, gooseberries, lettuce, pelargonium, raspberries and tomatoes.
