Home > Question >

When I pick the pears off my tree they are rotten in the middle. Why?

Our Advice:

Pears tend to ripen from the middle outwards, so they should be picked while still hard. Stored in boxes and covered with paper (smothered) to ripen them. Test for ripeness by pressing at the stalk end of the fruit; when this area starts to soften, they are ready to eat.
