How and when can I prune a 'Ballerina' apple tree that's too tall?

💡 Our Advice
These trees have a narrow, upright habit, but they do tend to get very tall and difficult to manage. The best time to prune your tree to control the growth is in late-summer. Cutting the top of the tree at this time will encourage shorter, fruit bearing shoots to develop. Pruning it in winter will encourage lots of long vigourous shoots the following spring.
