National Children's Gardening Week falls between 23 – 31 May this year, and the STIGA team say it is time to immobilise mobile phones, and switch on the soil, seeds and plants! Helping little gardeners bloom and grow their imagination can be educational ... and lots of fun!

Hands-on learning, especially when it comes to nature and nurturing plants, will stay in the minds of kids...remember harvesting blackberries with your grandparents, or picking radishes from your back garden as a child? Memories like this never fade!

Super Fun Gardening Ideas For Children

Grow-Your-Own Picnic Salad With picnics on the horizon, children can take pride in growing their very own fresh ingredients. Easy-to-grow 'cut and come again' salad leaves, along with cress and herbs, thrive on a sunny windowsill all year round. Young gardeners can design their own unique salad mix, give it a creative name, and proudly serve it at a family picnic. It’s a delicious way to connect gardening with everyday life.

A Home Botanical Adventure Children can become mini botanists by exploring their own garden. A fun challenge is to see how many flowers they can name. To bring the activity to life, families can create colourful picture cards featuring each plant, including both common and Latin names. Children can then draw a simple garden map and plot where each flower grows. The activity can end with a cheerful flower quiz...perfect for testing their newfound knowledge and celebrating their discoveries.

Create a Mini Fantasy Garden Imagination takes centre stage with mini fantasy gardens. Using a simple container like a bucket filled with soil, children can craft their own magical worlds. Pebbles and stones can form hills and landscapes, while toys or handmade figures bring the scene to life.

For space adventurers, sandy soil can transform into a desert planet, complete with handmade twin suns. Unicorn enthusiasts can create lush grassy settings with bright flowers and a rainbow backdrop. Whether it’s fairies, dinosaurs, or galaxies far away, the possibilities are endless.

These engaging activities show that gardening isn’t just about plants—it’s about creativity, learning, and making joyful memories together.
