Are the red and black grubs on my roses good or bad?

Our Advice:

These are ladybird larvae (the final stage before it becomes the familiar ladybird) and they are definitely the gardeners friends, as they feed on aphids and can eat up to 150 a day. They should be encouraged as a method of controlling greenfly naturally.
