Before the first heavy frost, carefully dig up the plant, cut back the stems and clean off most of the soil. Leave to dry for a few days before placing into a box and pack round the rhizome with straw or dry, screwed up newspaper. Store in a frost-free shed or garage over winter. Check regularly for any signs of mould.
