Why are flower buds dropping off my Camellia unopened?

Our Advice:

This is usually due to lack of water when the buds formed in late-summer. They appear normal but are damaged at the base and often fall prematurely. These plants need at least 14 litres of water a week through the summer, especially if they are growing in a container. Mulching plants growing in the border conserves moisture.
