Pruning chrysanthemums is an important step in promoting bushy growth and abundant blooms. The best time to prune chrysanthemums is in the spring, when new growth appears. Pinching back the tips of the stems by about 1/2 inch promotes branching and produces more flowers. Any dead or damaged stems should be removed, and the plant should be shaped to maintain a compact, bushy form. It's important to sterilize pruning tools before and after use to prevent the spread of disease.
