What is making sticky residue on the leaves of my citrus plants?

Our Advice:

This is honeydew which has been excreted by either mealy bug or scale insects as they feed on the plant. The best control is to spray with Plant Rescue for Flowering Plants from Westland or insert sticks of Bug Clear Ultra for Pots from Scott's into the compost.
