The corkscrew or dragons claw willow (Salix pekinensis Tortuosa) is usually pruned in autumn or early winter. You can cut back quite hard and the young shoots make ideal indoor decorations for Christmas. Any dead wood can be cut out in summer when it is easier to spot.
