Is it true you can use salt to control weeds in Asparagus beds?

Our Advice:

Yes, Asparagus is a maritime plant and can tolerate salty soils.as well as controlling weeds, research suggests that salt applications help the plants to resist crown and root rot diseases and improve growth and yield. You need to use rock salt rather than table salt. Apply the salt either before the spears emerge or after harvesting.
