Most heathers are pruned after the flowers are finished and the new shoots start to emerge. When this is done usually depends on when the plants flower. Cut back the shoots to just below the dead flowers and prune out any dead, damaged or diseased stems. Plants which have become too tall and straggling can be cut back hard to promote new growth.
