The best time is in the spring as the days get longer. Use a loam-based potting compost such as John Innes No 1 with added extra grit. These plants are notorious for becoming 'top heavy', so the loam provides extra stability. After the first year in the new pot apply a balanced liquid fertiliser 2 or 3 times during the growing season
