Dahlias can be divided every 3-4 years to promote healthy growth and blooming. To divide dahlias, wait until the plant has gone dormant in the fall, and then dig up the tubers. Carefully separate the tubers, making sure that each section has a healthy bud or eye. Replant the sections in a new location or container, watering well and keeping the soil moist until new growth appears.
