Sweet peas are climbing plants that need support to grow vertically. You can provide support by installing trellises, stakes, or netting near the plants. When the seedlings are about 6 inches tall, you can start training them to climb by gently tying them to the support structure with garden twine or soft plant ties. As the plants grow taller, you'll need to add more ties to keep them in place. Be sure not to tie the stems too tightly, as this can damage them. If the plants are sprawling or leggy, you can pinch out the tips to encourage bushier growth and better climbing.
