What is causing large black spots on some of my Acer leaves?

Our Advice:

This is a fungal disease called tar spot which is quite common, especially on sycamore. It does not seem to harm the trees so is not worth spraying. Rake up as many leaves as you can and dispose of them. Feed with Growmore as it starts growing next spring
