These plants do not need regular pruning and will bleed sap heavily (weakening the plant) if pruned at the wrong time of year. The young shoots should be pruned in summer when the plant is in full leaf. Large branches can be pruned back or removed about 4 weeks after leaf fall. This will reduce the chance of heavy bleeding.
