True rambler roses do not flower on the same wood twice, so they should be pruned in the summer straight after flowering has finished. Remove the shoots which have just produced flowers, cutting out the oldest shoots by pruning them as close to ground level as possible. Train and tie in the new vigourous shoots as they develop.
