Home > Question >

Why are my rose flowers turning brown and rotting before they open?

Our Advice:

This is called 'balling' and usually occurs when the weather is very wet. The petals become soaked with water and stick together. If the water does not drain away, the flower will gradually rot. It is worse on roses with a large number of petals. Just remove any rotting flowers as soon as they are noticed.
