How and when should I prune my rambling rose?

Our Advice:

The best time is in summer, immediately after flowering. Remove about one-third of the oldest stems by cutting them down to ground level, to encourage new shoots to grow from the base. Prune all side shoots back by about two thirds, to produce new flowering stems next year.
