What are the white maggots living in the roots of my plants?

💡 Our Advice
These are vine weevil larvae which will eventually eat away the roots. Water the compost with Bug Clear Ultra Vine Weevil Killer from Scott's or Provanto Vine Weevil Killer from Bayer to kill them off. Mulching the pots with gravel deters the egg-laying adults.
