What is causing black mould on the leaves of my bay tree?

Our Advice:

This is probably either mealy bug or scale insect. They feed and excrete 'honeydew' onto the leaves, where sooty mould fungus grows on it. To control these pests, spray with Provanto Ultimate Fruit and Vegetable Bug Killer from Bayer or Plant Rescue for Fruit and Vegetables from Westland.
