My lilac tree is too big when can I cut it back?

💡 Our Advice
The best time to prune a Lilac is just after it has finished flowering. If you prune it then you are still likely to get flowers the following year. If you have an old plant, it may have been grafted onto a rootstock which could produce loads of suckers. So prune your plant in stages to reduce the chances of this happening.
