When do I prune blackcurrant bushes?

Our Advice:

Prune during the winter, cutting out the oldest, darkest-coloured shoots and taking any thin, weak shoots back to one bud. Remove low growths where the fruit would trail on the ground. Mulch the plants with well-rotted manure or compost after pruning.
