Apricots (along with other stone fruits such as plums) are usually pruned when they are in leaf to try and avoid the pruning cuts becoming infected with silver leaf fungus. Aim for a tree about 2 m (6 ft) high, so that you can cover it to protect the fruit from marauding birds.
