Any time now, you can prune quite hard, to encourage new shoots from the base. Flowering may be delayed slightly if you do this hard pruning, but a feed with Sulphate of Potash to encourage the flowers will help. It is important to wear gloves or wash your hands after pruning, as the sap of these plants can cause blisters on bare skin.
