Why has my pink flowered cherry produced shoots with white flowers?

Our Advice:

Cherries are usually grafted onto a rootstock, which can produce shoots called suckers. If they are allowed to grow, they often produce white, single flowers. These growths are more vigourous than the named pink variety and will eventually take over. Trace these shoots back to where they begin and remove them.
