Treat your plants with Hydrangea Colourant from Vitax or from Doff. They contain powdered alum, which enriches the soil with iron and magnesium and encourages the flowers to stay blue. They can be watered into the soil or compost in late-summer just as the flowers are forming in the buds along the stems. Use rain water where possible.

Hydrangeas are a genus of flowering plants native to Asia and the Americas. They are known for their large, showy flower heads that come in a wide variety of colours, including blue, pink, white, and purple. Hydrangeas are popular as ornamental plants and are often used in gardens, as well as in cut flower arrangements.
Hydrangea plants can be shrubs or small trees, and typically have large, ovate leaves that are dark green and slightly serrated. The flowers are large, spherical or cone-shaped, and are composed of small, delicate florets. The colour of the flowers can vary depending on the pH level of the soil, with acidic soil producing blue flowers and alkaline soil producing pink flowers. Some hydrangea varieties, such as the lacecap hydrangea, have flat or domed flower heads with a ring of larger florets around the edge and smaller florets in the center.
Hydrangeas prefer moist, well-draining soil and partial shade. They are generally hardy and easy to care for, but may require additional watering during hot, dry periods. Hydrangeas can be propagated from cuttings or by layering, and are often grown as ornamental plants in gardens and landscaping. Pruning should be done in the late winter or early spring to promote new growth and encourage blooming.
Hydrangeas are primarily grown as ornamental plants and are popular for their attractive flowers and ease of cultivation. They are often used in gardens, as well as in cut flower arrangements for weddings and other special events. Hydrangeas are also used in traditional medicine for their anti-inflammatory and diuretic properties.
Hydrangeas are a beautiful and versatile addition to any garden or home. With their large, showy flowers and ease of cultivation, they are a popular choice for landscaping and cut flower arrangements. Whether grown for ornamental purposes or for their medicinal properties, hydrangeas are a noteworthy member of the plant kingdom.
