Trim the plant lightly as flowering finishes to prevent it becoming tall and straggly. Never cut back into old, bare stems as they usually die back rather than produce new shoots. These are not long-lived plants but they are easy to propagate from semi-ripe cuttings taken in the summer. The new plants should flower next year.
