Why are the leaves falling off my poinsettia so soon?

The most common cause for this type of leaf drop is chilling as a result of plants spending time in a cold draughty place. These plants prefer a temperature of 18-21c. If the temperature goes below 12c, even briefly, they will shed leaves as soon as they are placed in a warm room again. New leaves may grow at the shoot tips, but leave bare stems below.
