In colder climates, dahlias should be dug up and stored over the winter months. To prepare dahlias for winter, wait until the first frost has killed the foliage, and then dig up the tubers, being careful not to damage them. Allow the tubers to dry in a warm, dry location for several days, and then store them in a cool, dark location until spring.
