Dahlias can be propagated through division or stem cuttings. To propagate through stem cuttings, choose a healthy stem with several leaves, and make a clean cut just below a node. Remove the lower leaves and place the cutting in a container of moist soil or water, keeping it in a warm, bright location. Once roots have formed, transplant the cutting into a pot or garden bed, taking care not to damage the delicate roots.
