Chrysanthemums should be harvested in the morning when the flowers are fully open but before they begin to wilt. Use sharp scissors or garden shears to cut the stem just above a leaf node, taking care not to damage the remaining plant. Remove any leaves or foliage that will be below the water line in the vase. Place the cut flowers in a bucket of water and store them in a cool, dark location until you're ready to arrange them in a vase. Change the water frequently and recut the stems every few days to prolong the life of the flowers.
