This type of rose is usually a rambling rose grafted on to a tall rootstock stem. The best time to prune is in the summer immediately after flowering. Cut out the shoots which have carried the flowers, train the new trailing shoots as they emerge. Also, remove any sucker growths which are growing on the “leg” of the rootstock.
