Why has my Californian lilac died?

💡 Our Advice
Ceanothus bushes hate wet soil and poor drainage, so they often have difficulty coping with a wet autumn and winter. However, it's not long-lived and if there are no obvious signs of disease, it may have come to the end of its life. Ceanothus will usually grow and flower well for 15-20 years, but rarely last much longer than this.
