How can I stop ants running along the trunk of my Japanese maple?

Our Advice:

The ants are probably farming the aphids feeding on the plant. Spray the bush with an insecticide such as Sprayday Bayer Greenfly Killer'>Greenfly Killer from SBM to control the aphids. If the ants remain placing a Tree Grease Band around the stem to prevent the ants crossing over it. Ants trapped by the grease band will soon be eaten by birds.
