What is causing the small pink lumps on my Japanese maple?

Our Advice:

Your plant is infected with coral spot fungus, which also shows as grey staining in affected wood. Prune out all the affected branches to clean healthy wood and paint all of the cut surfaces with a wound paint such as; Medo from Vitax or Arborex Heal and Seal from Bayer.
