When should I split my New Zealand flax plant?

💡 Our Advice
The best time to divide Phormium is in spring before the new growth starts. These plants have a tough, woody rootstock and you will need to use a saw to split off sections of plant. Each division must have roots as well as leaves to be able to grow as a new plant. Make sure you do not replant the divisions too deeply, or they rot.
