How do I prune a climbing bougainvillea?

As they flower on this years shoots, prune in spring just before the new growth starts. Bend and tie in young shoots to slow the growth and encourage flowering. After the bracts have fallen cut back long growths halfway to encourage a second flush of flowers in late summer.
