How can I kill bindweed in a privet hedge?

Our Advice:

Push about 60 cm (2 ft) of the bindweed growing tips into a clear polythene bag, add a small amount of Weedol Rootkill from Scott's and tie the bag. The leaves will take up the chemical, killing the plant as it is taken down into the roots.
