Can I grow witch hazel in a chalky soil?

💡 Our Advice
Witch hazel (Hamamellis) usually struggles in really chalky soil so it would do better planted it in a container in a mixture of equal parts peat-based ericaceous compost and composted, shredded bark. This mix should provide good drainage, essential for these plants.
