Both common and powdery scab on potatoes are due to a bacteria-like infection, not fungus. Keeping the plants well-watered and liming the soil before planting will help. Resistant varieties include Accent, Arran Pilot, Desiree, Juliette, Golden Wonder, King Edward, Pentland Javelin and Sante.
