What is causing grey-green fungus markings on my apple tree trunk?

💡 Our Advice
This is not fungus, but a plant called lichen - often an indicator that there is no pollution in the air. It is not harmful to your tree, but may harbour fungal spores or insect eggs over the winter. Sprays of Yellow Sulphur from Vitax or Sulphur Rose from Greenacres Direct will help to remove lichen.
