Why are my baby pears turning black and dropping off?

💡 Our Advice
Grubs of pear midge feed inside embryo fruits, causing them to abort and drop. Rake up and burn all fallen fruitlets. Next year (from mid-spring) spray the tree with either PY Insect Killer ( Vitax) or Provanto Fruit & Veg Bug Killer (Bayer) to kill the adults before they lay eggs.
