Why do my pelargonium (geranium) cuttings turn black at the base and rot?

💡 Our Advice
This is called black-leg and often occurs when cuttings are in wet compost. The best way to combat this is to prepare the cuttings and then leave them in a cool, shady place for about half an hour. This lets the base of the cutting dry before you insert it into compost and reduces the risk of infection. You can also water the compost with a solution of Copper Mixture from Vitax.
