What makes the leaves of my Japanese maple sticky?

💡 Our Advice
This is honeydew, the residue from greenfly, mealy bug or scale insects feeding on the plant. Spray with Provanto Ultimate Bug Killer from Bayer or Bug Clear Ultra from Scott's. Both of products are systemic, last for several weeks and kill the insects as they feed.
