When is the best time to cut back an overgrown privet hedge?

💡 Our Advice
The best time for renovation pruning is mid-spring, when the plants are growing rapidly. For badly overgrown hedges, prune the hedge in stages, cutting the sides first and when the new shoots start to emerge, prune the top. After pruning, feed with a general fertiliser like Growmore or Vitax Q4 and water well if the soil is dry.
